As the owner of James Swift Construction, Inc. (DBA Richards & Swift Roofing), it is my honor and privilege to come alongside homeowners to help them with their roofing needs. I have been in the roofing business for over 30 years now, opening my own company in 2021 with my wife, Lisa. Working with her & having her support these last few years has been one major highlight of running my own company. Another huge highlight is when I have earned the trust of our customers – so much so that they eagerly refer me to their family & friends. Not much else is better than that! Outside of our business, I am a huge fan of being outdoors. I love to find little jobs to do around our home & I love to fish, hike, golf, & travel. Exploring our United States with my family as well as other countries will always be on my bucket list.
I currently work alongside my husband, Jim, as co-owner of our company and fully enjoy being with him on this journey. We have been married over 30 years and have three grown boys. Before working for our company, I got to be at home with our boys – a time in my life I will always treasure. Now some of my favorite times are watching my husband & our boys enjoying the outdoors. I also love hosting family & friends in our home, long walks with my hubby, or soaking up the sunshine during Michigan’s Summer months. My days at work are spent caring for the business aspects of our company which allows Jim to focus on operations and customer relations. We are often asked how we make working together, “work”….it really is a mutual respect for each other’s roles, jumping in to support each other, & having as much fun as possible.
When it comes to the family business my role with Richards & Swift Roofing is getting to be a part of the sales team. For five years now I’ve been helping homeowners with their roofs, gutters, and insulation. There is something quite satisfying when a customer’s job is complete and they share how happy they are with the whole experience; it means my goal of 100% customer satisfaction was met and it keeps me motivated to continue to have every customer happy with our company and our work. Like my dad, Jim, I am all about the outdoors and I especially like to explore upper Michigan as well as some of her surrounding states. I love to hike, hunt, fish, golf, & ride a four-wheeler. But another love of mine is sports, any sports. I enjoy watching them in person or via television with family or friends or both. My best day would be watching any Michigan team sitting next to my Papa making silly bets on who will win.
I am the newest team member of Richards and Swift Roofing, and I am so excited to be a part of the family business taking on the roles of sales & marketing. I am eager for the opportunity to work with homeowners one on one, helping with their roofing needs and I am looking forward to sharing about the company on social media platforms; something I am skilled at doing. To pass the time when I am not working, I enjoy getting together with friends, hanging out with my older brothers, trying new cuisines, and being outdoors – jogging, fishing, golfing, & going paddle boarding.
I have spent the last 10 years working in the roofing industry gaining experience & knowledge with multiple aspects of the trade. When Jim & Lisa opened their company, “Richards and Swift Roofing” in 2021 they asked me to join their team, and I happily accepted. When you call the company, there is a good chance you will get to chat with me, which is one of my favorite things about my job – getting to speak with our customers. I also enjoy coordinating operations with Jim and the sales team as well as with our suppliers and crews. Lisa often calls me the teams “Chaos Coordinator” and I think it fits my job description perfectly! When I am not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my family & friends. However, my favorite thing to do, especially in the summertime, is to hang out in my garden with my family’s dog and chickens. My goal every summer is to soak up as much sun as possible to get me through Michigan’s often sunless winters.
